Future Cars Worth Waiting For: 2025–2029

Our sneak peek at the most promising cars, trucks, and SUVs of the next few years.

2026 BMW 3-Series and M3

Previewed by the Vision Neue Klasse concept, the next version of BMW's venerable 3-series sports sedan is expected to include both internal-combustion and battery-electric variants. The i3, as we expect it to be called, will ride on an entirely new EV platform with an 800-volt architecture. The i3 will also spawn an all-electric M3 that will pack a potent quad-motor powertrain. We expect the i3 to debut before the end of 2025 and the iM3 to follow in 2026.

2026 Ford Mustang Raptor

Porsche has created an off-road Dakar version of the 911 and Lamborghini has turned the Huracan into a lifted supercar called the Sterrato. So why can't Ford apply its Raptor off-road treatment to the Mustang? It may sound crazy, but we hear it'll offer a naturally aspirated V-8 engine, all-wheel drive, and a lifted suspension with Fox Live Valve dampers. Expected this limited-run, bizarre spin on the Mustang to arrive in 2026 with a starting price of around $90,000.

2027 Jaguar I-Type

Jaguar has thrown out the playbook and will start afresh in late 2026 when production of the I-type gets underway. The large, four-door grand tourer will be the first model in a line of new EVs as Jaguar attempts to move upmarket to compete with the likes of Bentley. The I-type will be boldly styled, taking its blocky front end and dramatic proportions from the Type 00 concept. Jaguar is also targeting a 430-mile range for its new EV, which should be suitably powerful. We expect pricing to start close to $200,000 as Jaguar aims to capture a wealthier and younger audience.
